Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Tearing the Country Apart
The star has revealed that she believes it's no longer suitable to voice opinions countering the Trump presidency, worried it could worsen unhelpful debate and deepen rifts throughout the nation.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Notes the Actress
Speaking with media, the Oscar winner reflected, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was moving hastily in a panicked state. But as we’ve learned, election after election, Hollywood stars do not make a difference in any way on who people vote for.”
Lawrence added, “So then what am I doing? I’m just voicing my thoughts on something that’s going to worsen tensions tearing the country apart.”
Changing Allegiances
The actress has previously been open about backing Republican and Democratic contenders in past elections. Growing up with conservative Republicans in Kentucky, she voted for John McCain in 2008 then moving to the Democrats and revealing she recognized during President Obama’s term that supporting the GOP was voting against her personal freedoms as a female citizen.
Previous Comments
In 2015, she remarked that Donald Trump’s election would be “a catastrophic event” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. More recently, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “since I think she’s an excellent choice and I know that she will do whatever she can to protect reproductive rights.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Lawrence was aligned with many in the entertainment industry in her rejection of the former president as a returning figure, but the minimal impact stars have over the public choices was emphasized by the outcome.
“Another four years feels different,” said the actress of his leadership. “Because he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for the previous administration. He was explicit. And voters made that decision.”
New Release
Lawrence is highlighting Die, My Love, the filmmaker’s project in which she plays a young mom who struggles with her psychological well-being in the countryside. Speaking at a media event for the project in Venice, the star commented on the situation in the Middle East: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s occurring is no less than a atrocity and it’s terrible.”
Wider Issues
She continued by saying that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the conversations of the political landscape currently and how that is going to be accepted to the kids today. It’s going to be normal to them that leaders are untruthful.”
The actor attempted to refocus anger about the situation to decision-makers rather than actors and artists. “Concentrate on who is responsible,” she said, in what many took to be a reference to the declaration supported by thousands of arts community members to refuse engagement with certain cultural organizations.
Relatable Experiences
The actor, who received an Academy Award early in her career for her part in her breakout movie, is receiving praise for her work in her latest project. Even though Ramsay has disputed the story being seen as one of maternal mental health issues and psychological distress, Lawrence shared that she connected with elements of her character’s journey after the birth of her new baby, soon after filming concluded.
“There was concern regarding my baby,” she explained, “just picturing every potential danger, and then second-guessing everything that I was trying. I was already in therapy, but I began using a medication called that medicine and I took it for two weeks and it made a difference.”
Professional Experiences
Lawrence also mentioned of the empowering aspect of shooting revealing sequences in the project while she was in pregnancy and limited physically.
“There’s a freedom,” she commented, of being forced to cast off vanity. “Truly, I do have moments where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
