Ukrainian President Calls for EU to Employ Frozen Russia's Funds for Ukraine's Defense Financing

Amid current conference talks, President Zelenskyy has insisted EU leaders to activate plans employing seized Russia's funds to fund Ukrainian defence campaign "without delay".

Immediate Action Demanded

Speaking to European Union leaders in the EU capital on Thursday, the Ukrainian leader stressed the critical requirement to completely employ Russia's funds for the nation's defense against continuing aggression.

"Whoever procrastinates this decision is not only restricting our defence but also slowing down your own advancement," he affirmed, vowing that the country would invest significant money in acquiring EU-made military equipment.

EU Loan Plan

EU leaders are currently discussing plans to finance an interest-free financial package for the country secured by Russia's state resources, which were immobilized immediately after the full-scale military incursion.

European officials has proposed a 140-billion-euro non-interest package, with likely mandates to prepare thorough legal texts seeking to finalize the plan by the end of the year.

International Responses

Moscow has described the proposal as "theft" and has vowed to pursue any individuals or states deemed to have appropriated Russian money.

The Belgian government, which maintains 183 billion euros at the financial institution, representing 86% of all Russian government holdings within the European Union, has expressed apprehensions about the proposal.

"Should you want to proceed, we will have to act together," declared Belgian Prime Minister, emphasizing the necessity for assurances that all EU countries would share the financial burden if Russia attempted to reclaim its money.

Approximately one-third of Russian state resources are located beyond the European Union, including in the Asian nation (28 billion euros), the Britain (€27 billion), the North American country (€15 billion) and the America (€4 billion).

Diplomatic Prospects

Ukrainian leadership has minimized reports of a comprehensive ceasefire initiative that surfaced previously, indicating it was the work of "some very good friends" seeking to counter "some plan from Moscow".

Zelenskyy emphasized that Russia has demonstrated no indication of wishing to terminate the conflict, citing current strikes on populated areas.
